Building & Healing Communities
S.H.E. GALLERY, without a brick-and-mortar we were part of spaces and created spaces where there was a demand to heal. We were born for the silent voices eager to paint, to recite a poem, to dance, to express and be seen, gathered and together we created community and from there we build on layers of inspiration, collaboration and therein we saw potential to reach limitless limits.
Power are the people, nothing is more powerful than a community ruled by FAITH and TRUST.
"The greatness of a COMMUNITY is most accurately measured by the COMPASSIONATE ACTIONS of its members."
- Coretta Scott King

LITTLE VILLAGE LAWNDALE H.S.
MURAL YOUTH CLUB- FALL 2024
On May 13th, 2001 fourteen community residents of Little Village neighborhood staged a 19 DAY HUNGER STRIKE demanding the construction of a new high school. The high school had been promised, but was put on hold for monetary issues. Almost four years later the Little Village Lawndale High School Campus opened its doors to four hundred students in the fall of 2005. The campus is comprised of four autonomous small schools: Multicultural Arts H.S., World Language H.S., Social Justice H.S., and Infinity: Math, Science, and Technology High School. Learn More ,
Fall, 2024 - S.H.E. Gallery joined the new Mural Youth Club led by World Language H.S. instructor, Ms. Ana Castillo.
The Club has been instrumental in aiding education regarding public art forms and in designing and executing a mural to honor the hunger strikers that opened the doors and made LVLHS the school that it is today.

State Humanities Podcast:
Higher Education for All
Episode Description Illinois Humanities believes education is liberatory and should be accessible to all. That belief led them, 25 years ago, to partner with The Clemente Course in the Humanities to offer free college courses to low-income adults in the Chicago area through a program called The Odyssey Project or Proyecto Odisea. In this episode, learn more about this program and how it changes lives. Our guests are Dulce Maria Diaz (Odyssey Project alumnus), Dr. Rebecca Amato (Director of Teaching and Learning, Illinois Humanities), and Dr. Aaron Rosen (Executive Director, The Clemente Course in the Humanities).
